Hi Rob, We have a live google spreadsheet, which is updated via the google docs api
https://www.massive.org.au/userguide/software-instructions/installed-softwar e We don't notify users normally, however we log what modules are used by users with a simple system that creates a file per user of loaded modules. So if we have an issue with a module, we can find out who has used it and update everyone about the new fixed version available. It would be pretty easy to extend the above and to have the login profile look for new versions based on old usage and let users know. The trick would be not to annoy users who need to only use one version. Hope that helps. Web page, email, motd, etc. We've done that, but we've also recently had a request from a user to be notified only when specific software/packages change or when newer versions are installed. We're looking to implement that somewhat like a google alert, where the user can register some keywords to search for, and a cron job would search our change logs, and email the users what they had expressed an interest in. Has anyone done anything similar? Thanks. rgt Whitehead Network/System Administrator _______________________________________________ Beowulf mailing list, Beowulf@beowulf.org sponsored by Penguin Computing To change your subscription (digest mode or unsubscribe) visit http://www.beowulf.org/mailman/listinfo/beowulf _______________________________________________ Beowulf mailing list, Beowulf@beowulf.org sponsored by Penguin Computing To change your subscription (digest mode or unsubscribe) visit http://www.beowulf.org/mailman/listinfo/beowulf
