Apparently the folks at TeraSoft can bulk that up a little bit. To, like,
2GB, or so I'm told.

Curious where you get that information from. Their website listing
PS3 for sale says 256MB (192MB available to user):

http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/products/sony/

I suppose it is possible to add more RAM if you really want to, but I
have a feeling it would probably void the official warranty from Sony
;-)

Anyways, I think as a first step, you should get a copy of the Cell
SDK and see if your code re-compiles without a hitch.

I've been talking to them a little bit about this. And... Regardless of what they do, they have a deal with Sony. Their mods are "approved" and don't void the warranty. It's even possible to boot back into game mode.

Hmmm. <evil grin> Imagine 64 nodes of Guitar Hero... </grin>

I'll keep looking. I'll likely get the SDK. I know Some folks at NCAR who have been looking at this, and based on the customer list at TeraSoft, I suspect there's been some work, but that no one is talking about the results (yet). I may hear something at the WRF users Meeting this summer.

Thanks, Gerry
