I wouldn't try testing with that code - I found it here<https://gist.github.com/grodtron/4751014>, and by the looks of the commenting it is meant to work with a LSM303DLH<http://www.pololu.com/product/1250/>, not a ADXL345. I found this<https://github.com/jenschr/Arduino-libraries/blob/master/ADXL345/examples/ADXL345_no_library/BareBones_ADXL345.pde>, however, which looks like demo code for the device you have, although it is written for Arduino and not in Python but it should get you on the right path.
