Are you doing this in what BBEdit understand to be an html document? I  
just tried the "p" test (type p, wait a beat) and I got a pop-up that  
inclued a p, a p_class and p_id (pure paragraph, a paragraph with a  
class attribute and a paragraph with an id attribute.

This with default settings; I've not modified anything yet.
