Really silly question here, but have you checked the SQL Server Configuration to ensure that TCP connections are enabled? And that you've gotten them set up for the right IP Address? I've seen this cause more headaches (especially when using cloned VMs, etc.) than anything else during installations. Normally, it's the first area I check when having issues. Good luck! Matt R.
