Susan,

Server groups would not absolutely be needed. It can help but are not required.

We have 7.0.1 installed on a production server and on standby server. The
standby server is licensed as a hot standby. Like you the services on that
server are down until we would need it.

When I did the install on the standby, I had the production app server down. I
actually wound up having a minor issue because of the way I did the install. I
had to export the user form from our development server and apply to production.

I'm at home now but I can send you the details on the correct installation
choice in the morning.

Subject: Sanity Check on Prod Server with a Hot Backup Server - do we need
Server Group

**
Hi everyone,

We are moving from windows to unix for our servers. Dev server is working
fine (of course dev servers always work fine)! Now we're at the prod server
process and the server guys are floundering a bit. We are planning a prod
application server and a hot backup application server pointing to the same
database. These go through a BIG IP server. The hot backup application server
is not in service while the main one is up, it's just there waiting for a
hardware failure.

The server guys are having a problem installing AR on the hot backup server,
sorry the details are sketchy. They simply said it doesn't want to do it. So
they called support and came away with the need for server groups.

In this scenario should we need to use server groups? Does anyone have
something similar? We've gone from the simplest of systems (one server for
everything) to this elaborate environment. Yes I understand there are benefits
for it but wish the server guys were remedy guys too!

Any enlightenment you can provide will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Susan
