John: I have actually done that! However, what I want is to have VLC open
whenever i open that video (it did it before) b ut I don't know what I've
done to change it and don't know how to get it back without messing
something else up!

An easier thing to do may be if you right click on the video, arrow
down to open with and then choose vlc. If vlc is not listed you will
have to choose other and browse for the executable.

"file association!" What I need is step-by-step instruction on how to
accomplish what I want to do! I was able to go into File Association (in
Winamp) I unchecked "MP4 as I believe that this is what this file is. This
enabled me to watch the video in Windows Media...but that's not what I want!
I also went into that place with the applications key and found "open with
sub-menu"...I then could make it play in VLC. But then if I play the file
again, it comes up in Winamp and no video! What am I missing here?

you want. I do not know how this works in Windows 7, but I imagine it isn't
too dissimilar to windows 10. Default programs is probably in control panel,
whereas in Windows 10 it's in settings. You still have a search box in
windows 7, so you can just type in "set default programs" there, and it
should come up. Once there, you can select the default program for each type
of file, including video.

that if you hit the applications key on the file (or shift f10), there
should be a "play in vlc" option in the context menu. This should be the
case even if VlC is not currently the default player for videos.

Open the program, The standard ctrl-o keystroke should work.

instructions online for all versions of Windows. A google search will bring
up dozens of results. Not being a smart-arse by suggesting you use google.

the first track in any audio/video container. VLC will play nearly
everything and it's easier to select audio tracks within the audio menu.

this from within vlc, in the simple preferences dialog. However, I'm not
sure how accessible that particular area of the interface is. He preferences
dialog is unfortunately a bit of a frustrating experience for screen-reader
users, though things can still be done with it. Anyway, I think it's better,
especially if you have Windows 10, to do this from within Windows itself
rather than trying to get programs to make changes to the operating system.
Look for "default programs" in settings and you will find it.

so, I don't remember! But yes...VLC used to come up when I would click this
video! So then where (in VLC) do I go to make this happen? To answer your
other question: I've had Winamp on my computer forever (and it ain't gonna
get removed as I like that player) but VLC does play videos; it's just that
I want VLC to come up (with this particular item) but I want Winamp to play
my MP3s! I do appreciate your response!

settings. Now I find it odd Winamp isn't giving you video though.

Your life is like a penny. You're going to lose it. The question is:
How do
you spend it?
