We also have problems with the not powering anything issue. It was difficult
as we never saw with our own eyes, but we think it was combination of the
ethernet cable being loose enough in the ethernet jack (thus the eventual
taping the thing in, we’ll try the Gorilla glue you mentioned) and them
accidentally turning the POE off on the slider switch on the end. Since we
have gone over that basic troubleshooting with them we haven’t seen issues, but
that was fairly recently.

Thanks,

David Coudron

My fix for that was to gorilla glue the ethernet cable in. So far so good. I
have a second that will not power anything. Need to get it back to them.

Powerlink as well. Only complaint was the old units have shitty Ethernet ports
that don't hold the cable and zip ties aren't enough. I sent mine in for
repair and happy since.

I've tried tons of home made options... This is the best solution.

We use a small 5” inch box with a belt clip. Inside is a tiny 12V lead acid
battery because it is forgiving and easy to charge in the car. It has a 48volt
dc/dc converter with a switch that lets us choose between 12v and 48V so that
we can power either Ubiquiti or wimax CPEs. We have a volt/Amp guage so that
we can clearly see what voltage is selected and see the condition of the
battery. The amp guage is handy as it indicates if something is wrong with the
line or cpe/line we are testing. A thermal fuse protects everything against
bad cat5,cpes or misconnections. We also have a red jumper with the power
lines crossed in case we need to power up an older Canopy unit. Lastly the
cigarette lighter port means we can power odd ball devices or a small ac
inverter. Been using that for years.

I was planning to add an airgateway with Static IPs + DHCP so we can connect to
all the different types of equipment we use wirelessly. If I can’t script it
to choose the appropriate default gateway I may use a raspberry pi instead.
Although instead of even doing that. I may next build lithium batteries and
wifi into the spare room in the CPE case. Then its just the cpe on a pole and
an iPhone to hold onto. Maybe put an iphone case on the pole.

We are using the same. Works very well as it has the access point built in and
you can connect from your phone. They also have 48V upconvertor if you are
not using 24V.
