I wouldn’t go with Zayo for transit.. they have had a horrible last 24 months transit wise..

While I have my own opinions on the different IP Transit providers, they all have their areas of strength and weaknesses. Cogent & HE are great networks, when it comes to connectivity within their network and their customers, using them for transit can be touch and go (greatly dependent on the geography) Level3, extensive network, but most of the time, lights are no, no one is home.. or it is questionable as to who is steering that ship if anyone. XO, Older network, have great connectivity in Tier2 areas and fudging in others. Zayo, the Abovenet side is still very respectable, but lots of melding of their acquisitions going on .... GTT /(AS3257), Good network, but they are quiet discombobulated at the present, they are actively collapsing their Nlayer & Tinet into one network... TATA, acquired taste, best connectivity to the Eastern Part of the world (Far East), NOC & OPS are not in the US, their US connectivity is interesting. Hibernia, very interesting network, they peer heavily all over the world, so lots of networks are just one hop away, however NOC is out of Europe, dealing with Time difference and Days off does require some patience... Having said that, this is the reason why some folks have multiple carriers in their mix, so that they can traffic engineer to optimize the good and go around the not so good. We've compared their routes to Level3, Sprint, XO, Zayo, etc. and HE has the lowest latency routes out of Minnesota and Cogent is better than all the other big names as well. Each POP location we pick them up from has redundant routes out and we have had no downtime from either provider. Not sure if your POP locations are different but we, as well as every other major regional ISP in our area is going to Cogent and HE for bandwidth and we've had no problems. I'm sure this was different 3-5+ years ago but today, they both have VERY solid networks in our opinion and their support contacts have been very responsive with questions we've had. If the cost is the same, why not get more bandwidth so it's one less thing to worry about when you need it? Also, once you become a Cogent customer they are very reluctant to let you have the 1G/$700 price.
