WISPs have concerns about whether the Federal Communications Commission will direct Connect America Fund subsidies to competing local providers. The FCC recently published data based on the National Broadband Map and has identified specific census blocks as potentially "unserved." Providers seeking to provide broadband and voice services to these "unserved" areas potentially could become eligible for CAF subsidies. The FCC has invited the public to review the data and to file Comments (now due January 9, 2013) or Reply Comments (now due January 24). Providers will be able to submit evidence to support changes to the data or to respond to changes proposed by others.
