Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share a thought in response to the ongoing discussion about disability concessions in air travel.

It’s a bit ironic for me personally, because a few years ago I had started a petition on Change.org requesting a disability discount for Apple devices. At that time, I received quite a lot of backlash from several members of this community — especially on AppleVis and other mailing lists.

Many felt that asking for a disabilitybased discount was not reasonable or justified.

Yet now, the same larger community is discussing, and even seeking, disability concessions from airlines.

To be clear, I am not saying all of us are the same individuals, and I agree that circumstances differ. But the basis for the ask — “being a person with a disability” — is exactly the same.

That is what makes this situation somewhat ironic.

My original petition from 2020 is still active and continues to seek Apple’s attention. If anyone still believes in the vision behind that request, you are welcome to support it. You can find it on Change.org by searching for:

Disability Discount Apple Change.org

(Unfortunately, I can’t paste the full link here, but searching for the above keywords will bring it up.)

The intention behind all such initiatives — whether for airline concessions or technology affordability — is the same:

to make essential tools and services more accessible for people with disabilities.

Thank you for reading, and wishing everyone well.

Sincerely,

What kind of answer is this?

The question was simple (already answered by Rahul),
why to create such a kind of complication and that is too without giving the actual answer?

"50% concession  in base fair from AirIndia through their offfices with their contact number for further assistance" was more than sufficient and that exactly Rahul did and it was perfect answer of this question.
Why are we trying to become more descriptive unnecessarily, and while doing that sound ambiguous and confusing?

Subject: Re: [AI] Regarding Concession for the blind passengers in certain flights

Hi,

I hope you are doing well.

Regarding your questions about Air India concessions, it is helpful to note that Air India was originally a public sector institution controlled by the Government of India. This historical background is why they have traditionally provided fare concessions for various groups, including Bharat Ratna awardees, Members of Parliament, and persons with disabilities. Because the government maintained management control and subsidized these fares, many of these provisions have continued even following the airline's privatization.

In contrast, airlines such as IndiGo are entirely private entities. The government does not exercise the same level of control over their pricing structures, and they generally treat all passengers as customers without specific subsidies. Consequently, we should not necessarily expect private carriers to offer the same concessions provided by a government-linked entity like Air India.

In terms of availing these benefits, these concessions are typically available in India if you purchase your tickets offline at an Air India office. This often results in the best available base fare, though please keep in mind that applicable taxes remain the same.

Hi Rahul,
How much concession does Air India provide? Is it only for domestic flights? You said that the one needs to contact their office for it, does that mean that the ticket needs to be bought offline?

Only air india has concession that can be availed offline through air india offices. You can take available offices address from helpdesk

Months ago, there was an email  here on this platform discussing concessions in air fares with Indigo and Air India flights.

However, nothing is mentioned on Indigo’s website at least and I called the customer care of Indigo up on which they directed me to enquire in the ticket counter of the airport.

The manager made me wait for an hour there only to be told that there is no such policy with Indigo and requested me to get any circular/document from the company stating the same.

So, are there any concessions for us?

If so, what is the way to avail it?

Waiting for the reply with anticipation.
