either libunwind is not installed or it is a messed up pkg or non-compatible
version installed?

that's the first place I would check

$ dnf repoquery --requires xorg-x11-server-Xorg.x86_64
libunwind.so.8()(64bit)
...

$ dnf list installed 'libunwind*'
Installed packages
libunwind.x86_64       1.8.1-2.fc42 fedora
libunwind-devel.x86_64 1.8.1-2.fc42 fedora

$ dnf repoquery -l libunwind
/usr/lib/libunwind.so.8
/usr/lib/libunwind.so.8.1.0
/usr/lib64/libunwind.so.8
/usr/lib64/libunwind.so.8.1.0
...

I see /usr/lib64/libunwind.so.8 present but none of the /usr/lib/libunwind*

Q) is this a problem?

I reinstalled libunwind and libunwind-devel with no change.
Also reinstalled xorg-x11-drv-intel and xorg-x11-server-Xorg for good measure.

Rebooted. No change.

What next?
