Check if every client (all applications) are affected. If so, retry by explaining what you're trying to do. If not, is simply a bug in the affected clients (or toolkit) - you report a bug there. (Ifff you're referring to the primary selection, ie. pasting w/ mmb, and it fails everywhere, run "xev -event mouse | grep button" and ensure the button is number "2".)
