Sounds like you already know more about this stuff than I do :) Just an idle observation: I have a four-button trackball mouse that xorg announces as having 9 buttons. According to xev, the buttons are 1: Left click 3: Right click 2: buttons 1 and 3 pressed at the same time 8: Left tiny-button click 9: Right tiny-button click That's all. Buttons 4-7 don't exist. Someone in this mailing list explained this numbering system to me a long time ago.
