I have

When I

$ xset r rate 500 30

So, what do I need to add to my xorg.conf to make xset not belch out this error?

I also saw that this very bug was filed in 2005:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2258

but apparently the patch submitted went nowhere?
