I got joy....
My steps to this solution were
1) Set up a minimal configuration w/ JUST the radeon in ZaphodHead mode
This worked perfectly.
Then, I added a third Device, Monitor, and Screen section for the
onboard intel video *AFTER* the radeon in the xorg.conf file
(Order ought not matter ... and bearings ought not wear and I ought not
grow old and die :) )
