It seems to work but is it possible to do it from xmodmap? I needed to change 2 entries into FOUR_LEVEL_SEMIALPHABETIC/FOUR_LEVEL_ALPHABETIC and AFAIK my desktop have hooks only for xmodmap (and working out the order of initialization - after changes of keymap but before first keyboard input is requested - can be tricky).
