There is no nv.ko module. There is a nouveau.ko module, an nvidia.ko
proprietary module, but no nv module.
There is an nv.ko, but it is a useless placeholder that exists for
unknown reasons.
It existed a couple of months before nouveau and was intended to help
extend nv to do exa. However, this never happened. So technically
today that module is useless. Maybe we should remove it from git
someday.
