Initially I merely noticed the regression addressed by the 1st patch, but looking more closely revealed further deficiencies. After having moved the FIXME in patch 3 I couldn't resist and address that issue at least partly (patch 4), seeing that three and a half years have passed and nothing was done to improve the situation.
