He clearly committed patches that weren't perfect, but I appreciated that because that's how I work: I like to do several iterations, maybe redo the code several times, but commit the intermediate steps.
And Alexandre explained that as well :-) If he sees that a person really grasps and understands the code, he reviews his patches much more freely, and allows some sloppiness in his code, hoping that it improves with time. -- Dmitry.
