that all of these people were reloading the page. So either it's a bug
(which I didn't spot yet), or the wording is confusing. So far I didn't
find any pattern, e.g. specific countries or languages, that is affected.

giving me recurring donations after the single one time one!
I can imagine a scenario, where a person considering donating visits the
page multiple times per day. They keep getting the one time donation.
Then, when they finally decide to donate, the page loads with recurring
donation, their brain ignores the text and they fall into the trap.
I recommend to cease the A/B testing immediately as it pertains to one
time/recurring donation. A/B test other elements as much as you want,
but don't mess with the donation type. I would settle on showing the
recurring donation as default.
