Since a while we have "vkms.ko" on our wishlist (as a gsoc or something) on the kernel side, so that stuff like this could be tested in a fully automated way. Especially once you get into DP MST connector hotplugging, or the recent link_status stuff, the things a proper compositor is supposed to do (and most don't) is quite long and tricky.
