The Virtuoso 37000 Error TR...: transitive start not given,
is fixed in a later release.
In the meantime you can use this work around.
SELECT ?superclass {GRAPH <http://dbpedia.org> {
?class rdfs:subClassOf [] .
[] rdfs:subClassOf ?superclass .
?class rdfs:subClassOf* ?superclass.
FILTER (?class = <http://dbpedia.org/ontology/Actor>)
