Thanks for the pointers. 

I ended up being able to install 6.1.8 from SourceForge’s tarball [1,3].

However, doing so didn’t set up an /etc/init.d
[2] 2.4.4 suggests to "cp initd_startup.template”, but I couldn’t find that 
template in the extracted tarball.
Where is the best place to get that template? And, could init.d get mentioned 
towards the end of [3]?
I ended up just stealing the init.d from another VM that I had sitting around, 
but I’d rather not cheat next time :-)
