Hi there,

I am running virtuoso open-source 5.0.11 on my Linux box and I needed to shut it down. I entered isql and typed “shutdown;” The command was apparently sent to the server, but nothing happened then. isql is hung (I suppose I can kill it with Ctrl-C), and Virtuoso is still running (ps –ef | grep virtuoso)

Is it normal for the shut down procedure to take so long?

Depends a bit. If the machine is slow and there are other transactions pending, it might take a while; otherwise, generally no, it will shut down in a few seconds.

You might want to point another isql session at it and run status(); to see what it's doing.
