Hi,

I'm wondering if Virtuoso Open Source Edition supports distributed SPARQL queries over many Virtuoso databases. I've understood that virtual databases are included only in the commercial edition.

I would like to make it easy to build personal data spaces and to set up communities by connecting these data spaces together by a query engine that can run distributed queries over the all of the dataspaces in the community. An example of such a community would be a group of web shops that want to provide a unified product catalog. Another example might be a group calendar for the members of some project. Setting up such a community should be a matter of telling the URI:s of the data spaces to the query engine. Assuming that the data is expressed in compatible ontologies.

What do you think about this kind of approach to Semantic Web communities and does Virtuoso support this?
Jukka,

At the current time you can send SPARQL Queries to Virtuoso and non Virtuoso endpoints without issue. What is missing is intelligent federation of sparql :-) This availability of this intelligent federation/virtualization via Open Source is undecided at the current time.
