You need to provide more information about your environment: OS, remote or 
local, terminal app if you are doing remote, :version output, etc.

Does any Ctrl key work, like Ctrl-F for Page down, Ctrl-B for Page up, and 
Ctrl-G for Print current file name? Could it be that some app intercepted 
Ctrl-G for some purposes?
 

The method of using the `...` to post below using Google Groups web 
interface exposes my email address; do I want that ?
