I had exactly the same problem. I followed the instructions in the first answer in this link to solve the issue. It works for me now. http://superuser.com/questions/655600/i-cant-set-a-program-as-the-default-to-open-a-filetype-with-in-windows-7 Have to correct some registry key as it was still set with some vim74 path (not updated by new installer).
