Even mail /was/ reply-to munging, when hitting reply (bind to "r")
will prompt the address of mailing list but with a "yes/no"
confirmation.  If you say no, it will change to the address of the
original sender.  You may also search if such plugin is available for
t-bird or seamonkey.
