Yes, docker is using aufs if it's available, but they say some other
fallback backends were integrated in it recently, to support non-aufs
capable kernels, see

The problem is, it seems there's no way to just create a mount in docker,
the containers are currently created only for one long-running process, and
there's no public api to even get the underlying filesystem mount path. I
may be wrong here, but I didn't find one.
