I'm gonna install apache+mod_jk+tomcat in openSuse 10.3, but according to the howto's I've seen on the internet, I should create a virtual host in apache in order to make it work. In my experience in other distros (Ubuntu, CentOs), this is not necessary... then... should I create that virtual host? ( i'm asking this because other guy I met couldn't make it work...)
If you're going to use Apache etc as delivered in OpenSuse (instead of compiling yourself, or using "generic" packages), this question may have a lot more to do with how Apache etc are configured in OpenSuse by default -- and if I remember correctly, understanding that took quite some time and research. If you're going to work with the OpenSuse way of doing things, take the time to learn it, and you'll find what is the proper way to get the configuration you like. On the other hand, if you'd like to have others (people not working with OpenSuse) understand what is going on, then you'll more or less ditch the Apache/Tomcat environment distributed with OpenSuse and install the generic packages. This is not to say that the OpenSuse way of doing things is bad in itself; they're made pretty interesting integration work. It's just that it's different enough, that the instinctive recommendations by people familiar with generic Apache&Tomcat installations often do not work as such. -- ..Juha --------------------------------------------------------------------- To start a new topic, e-mail: users@tomcat.apache.org To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
