the file shows the repository with the rights I have set in my attempt to solve the problem not the "chmod 777 -R *" but also with all the rwx rights set nothing changes.
Not sure about Mandriva, but on Mac OS X at least, the required syntax is "chmod -R 777 thing"; "chmod 777 -R thing" would show the error message "chmod: -R: No such file or directory".
option in linux can change their position in the command line so also "chmod 777 * -R" is correct. Probably is bound to the shell you use I'm using tcsh but probably bash interprets them differently I don't know.
