You have been given the option to try the branch where the bug is fixed. Other options are to live (maybe temporarily) with the fact that users can see other users' directories. A third option would be to actually use separate repositories for separate users and only grant the "owner" any access at all. If the repositories contain private stuff, you could then even remove a whole user, which is not that easy in a shared repository. Lastly, shame on you for trying to blackmail volunteers with "fix this or I'll use Mercurial". If you paid for Subversion (Which is yet another option btw!) you could demand things, but otherwise that's just low and the devs don't deserve it.
