Did you try to end Open Office and stop the Quick Start?

Computer crashed today using Open Office, which I've had for years. Couldn't open docs, lost docs, disaster. Tried to install 4.6, but Wizard wouldn't allow it, kept saying I needed to exit Quick Start and close 4.6, when it's not on? What in the world guys?
