Now that's the case. The font is installed, otherwise I couldn't use it at all, but not all the characters are in the pop-up Insert Special Character window. Only the special characters are there, but not the other 'normal' A's, B's, …

You need to buy the PDU fonts which makes it not likely that anyone can reproduce your problem. There is an open bug report (125257 <https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=125257>) which could be related to your problem.

Dear

I’m a graphic designer and I’m using Open Office for one of my clients. I’m working with a font called PDU, which has different designs for each letter; there are like 2 different A’s, 3 K’s and so on. But I was wondering how do I insert these different letters in open office? I’m able to insert a special character, but the different letters aren’t show here.

If the font is installed on your computer it should be visible in the
pop-up Insert Special Character window.
Just select the PDU font.

I’m hoping you can help me with this.
