Hooking up an external monitor to the macbook pro, I'm having trouble getting
the right display on the right screen.

I want the normal fullscreen slide show on the external monitor (projector or
second vga monitor attached using the apple vga adapter) and the display with
the notes and next slide to show on the builtin screen. I can get this the
wrong way to [black screen with current slice, next slide, and notes; with a
menu bar at the bottom - showing on the external monitor and the presentation
view on the builtin]

The black screen has a help menu that offers:

Ctrl-1 show presenter console
Ctrl-2 show presentation notes
Ctrl-3 Show slides overview

but Ctrl 1,2,3 do nothing.
Cmd 1: view of the current slide and the next;
Cmd 2: same thing plus notes
Cmd 3: a slide sorter sort of view.

all on the external monitor, while the builtin monitor is showing the slide -
fullscreen.

I can live with these IF I can figure out how to get the displays reversed.

A 2 year old's answer to everything: "No!" You can learn a lot from a 2 year
