Tried to use Maven 2.0.9 and the problem is still there. Tried using
expressions:
${groupId.replace('.', '/')}
${packageName.replace('.', '/')}
And I'm still getting the same error.

Can you please describe a little bit more your problem?
What command line you use? what is the maven/plugin version?
Can you create a JIRA with all these indication.
