In that case, excluding dependencies which were brought in transitively may not be the world's best idea. Surely, many of those artifacts are actually required at runtime by one of the many dependencies you've specified, or else they would not have been declared as transitive deps, right? Unless you are certain the ~100 jars you believe are "extra" are actually unneeded at runtime, I wouldn't specify any excludes, and assume they are all necessary. If your testing reveals several which can be excluded, then and only then would I start adding excludes.
