Thanks for all the help guys! In actuality all I needed to do was add the
following:
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<configuration>
<source>1.6</source>
<target>1.6</target>
</configuration>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
Everything compiled fine after that... Lesson learned...
