Hey Dave
You don't have to specify where a dependency is located. Maven search through
all specified repositories. The failure of your project makes me wonder why the
xrite-commons isn't part of your project. But that should not be the cause. The
only thing that I can imagine is that your scoping is wrong. Extend your
dependency like below, if that doesn't work I'm lost as well.
<dependency>
<groupId>com.xrite</groupId>
<artifactId>xrite-commons</artifactId>
<version>1.7</version>
<scope>compile<scope>
<type>jar</type>
</dependency>

Roald,
You are on to something here. The problem seems to stem from a single
dependency in the xdsiii-driver-api module; which is the first one.
This module has a dependency on:
<dependency>
<groupId>com.xrite</groupId>
<artifactId>xrite-commons</artifactId>
<version>1.7</version>
</dependency>
It fails if this is included and works if not included. This artifact
exists in our local repository called 'internal'. This repository was
specified in the parent pom and the child pom (not sure why I had it in
the child as I don't think this should be necessary).
Do you have any idea why this should cause failures?
As a general related question, I am not quite sure how to specify where
each dependency is located, i.e. local, repo1, or if it is a
multi-module project.
Thanks for your help, any idea about this failure?

Hey Dave
I took a closer look on your poms. As you can see below all 11 modules
from the parent pom are being build. What I had to do is, of course
disable the dependencies on your other projects (commons and color). And
from each submodule I removed the repository definition (if sepecified).
Please try if this will work for you as well..

Roald,
I gave this a try...I added the relativePath entry to all the child
project pom files.
Unfortunately it didn't help. What I find interesting with this problem
is that it makes all the xdsiii-instrument-xxx modules plus the parent
xdsiii-drivers project but not any of the xdsiii-driver-xxx modules. I
see this pattern but I don't see why it is an issue.
Any ideas?

Hey Dave
Try using the <relativePath> in the <parent> definition.
<parent>
<groupId>com.xrite</groupId>
<artifactId>xdsiii-drivers</artifactId>
<version>1.0-SNAPSHOT</version>
<relativePath>../pom.xml</relativePath>
</parent>
Because the parent has not been installed yet, it might have problems
resolving the parent pom.

Hi Roald,
Thanks for the reply,
Yes I can, I have attached a zip file with my project structure with all
the POM files. I hope you can get a zip file...I copied you on this as
I wasn't sure this will get to the email list.

Personally I don't have any problems with the IDEA plugin. Can you
provide some of the poms that give you these problems?

I built the latest snapshot of the IDEA plugin (2.1-SNAPSHOT) which
fixes the problem I had.

Subject: [m2.0.4] possible problem with IDEA plugin?
I have a multiple module maven2 project that I am trying to generate
IntelliJ project files for using the maven-idea-plugin (v2.0). When I
run idea:idea on the parent project I get several of the following
console output statements:
INFO Preparing idea:idea
INFO No goals needed for project - skipping
After several sections of this I get the following error:
ERROR BUILD ERROR
INFO Unable to build project dependencies.
In the end, it builds about half the IntelliJ module files and the
parent project file. When I open the project file IntelliJ reports
errors stating that it Cannot Load Module....and it asks, Would you like
to remove the module from the project?
The only pattern I see in which modules fail and which work is that the
ones that work are configured to use java 1.4 and the others use 1.5;
however if as a test I make one of the 1.5 modules 1.4 it does not help.
Therefore I do not find any cause of the failures.
Does anyone have any idea why this is failing?
