Why does maven build on dos prompt keeps waiting for user to press enter?

For my pom.xml based maven build, at multiple places it waits and keeps waiting 
until I press Enter. This is a huge time waster because for a big project I 
have to constantly monitor the window and keep pressing Enter. How to make it 
just proceed without waiting? Pressing a number of Enters beforehand doesn't 
help.
