I have used RTX NVIDIA cards in two different computers using
RPMFusion drivers. Some very minor issues at times. Latest issues I
attribute to Wayland again.
nvidia is my last choice, based on 12 years of bad experience! I've had
a few threads in this list dealing with nvidia issues, and I know I'm
not alone.
I guess I am 90% lucky with NVIDIA cards. AMD burned in a great way, at
least 3 times with Linux. I feel that NVIDIA seems to work with little
headaches from my first time using their cards. Long stories over over
time about AMD. Once burned, twice shy?? Bumble Bee was a headache.
What I'm really needing is something that really facilitates finding
things that satisfy my technical specs. See my response to Felix's
post. By now, I'm seriously doubting that such a web site exists.
Shopping web sites seem to come closest, but still are only so-so.
What I did the last couple of times to purchase computers is to look at
what I needed and who supplied what I wanted. Then review the issues
that people had, more from bug reports.
For laptops, Lenovo met over 90% of the latest requirements for laptops.
Asus for the rest.
I am a tech so I am willing to put some extra work into building
systems. My big system is about 10yrs old and still meets most modern
day requirements. Only needed to change the video card and get the
motherboard repaired for a failed chip due to constant power failures by
the power cord getting kicked out by my son.
From my technical experience, I know that a batch from a production run
can be bad so any long term reviews may not fit for that manufacturing
run. I look for a decent warranty and ease of use.
One company I had purchase had a great warranty on paper, but it cost
to send your stuff to them for repair/replacement. In one case, about
80% of a new item cost. Not worth the cost. Refused their products since.
I am very happy with ASUS out of warranty repair service. In both cases
I have used them it was a much lower cost than replacement costs.
Frustrating to wait in one case but still worth the cost. Would have
stuck with ASUS if they had laptops with the specs I wanted at the time.
I had one motherboard that was replaced twice under warranty shortly
after purchase by the shop (New Egg) once and the board manufacturer the
second time. In both cases, still didn't work. Took quite awhile to
get my money back from New Egg, even when manufacturer said to refund.
Ended up with an ASUS in the end.
You have a good hunt ahead of you.
