Hi All,

Fedora 38

Getting ready to upgrade my main computer to FC39, I did hte following commands

# rpm --rebuilddb
# rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
# dnf --enablerepo=* update --refresh
# reboot   and repeat the above update until no updates registered

Why would you need to repeat that?

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/upgrading-fedora-offline/

To update your Fedora release from the command-line do:

      sudo dnf upgrade --refresh

      and reboot your computer.

Important: Do not skip this step. System updates are
required to receive    signing keys of higher-versioned
releases, and they often fix problems related to the
      upgrade process.

Myself, I have found that after reboot, there a always a
few stragglers that got missed the first time around.

And it begs the issue, why update your current version if
everything is going to be replaced anyway

It tells you why right in the "Important:" section. Personally, I don't do a full upgrade. I just make sure that the most important parts of the upgrade process are up-to-date and I've never had a problem.

# dnf autoremove

Okay, now both krusader and smplayer seems to have long
all their text, except for the first letter and any
numbers.  Capitol letters seems to come out.

This is krusader:

How in the world do I fix this?

Probably reboot, or at least logout.  A lot of things don't like having libraries and such changed underneath them.

Three reboots now.  No change.

Then I suggest doing the F39 upgrade now.
