Hello,

can anybody explain Hadoop's release policy to me? Apparently 2.8.2 is now
the "stable" version, but this relatively recent branch seems now dead
already with 2.9.0 coming out and "fixing 790 bugs" of 2.8.2 that
apparently remain unfixed in the 2.8.x branch - yet it is not tagged as
"stable". Going back, 2.8 and 2.9 seem to have branched from 2.7.3, which
has however during the summer also received an update to 2.7.4. So are
those backported fixes, or is somebody independently still maintaining
2.7.x, making it the real "stable" branch? And how does 3.x, which has
recently moved into beta, relate to 2.9.x, which, not being tagged
"stable", is also something like a beta version?

Many thanks
Rupert
