That's an impressive 24MB Xorg.0.log.old! Ok. So, from your dmesg logs there it looks like the nouveau kernel module is wedging. Do you remember the last kernel that worked? If you can't remember, or haven't tried any other Maverick kernel, you can download previous kernels from https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/+source/linux
