Alright, I've installed the PPA version, and I think it improves matters, although after a while, I still hit a situation where applications weren't accepting mouse input (I could still move and resize the top window with the mouse). I don't know if that's part of the same issue, or something different. Is there a more systematic way to test than wildly clicking around a load of applications?
