Experienced again today, but with the difference that Firefox was not running. I had VLC play a movie in 200% resolution, and switched back to an open window in Chrome web-browser. The problem seems to be triggered solely by VLC. The only console messages I can make out is that the nouveau releases the fifo_2 on crash and reinitializes it as the login screen appears after the crash. Nothing else.
