I tested on Lucid Netbook remix. I had 4 workspaces in a row, and I was able to see "Move to workspace (up/down/left)" on a window on second workspace from the left, while having four workspaces in a row. The drivers are nvidia proprietary, though - not ati anymore, because the machine is different.
