Most motherboards now come with integrated graphics chips and people add in their discrete graphics cards. OSX has enabled a new feature (recently introduced with its new Core i5 laptops), that allow the system to switch between integrated and discrete graphics _on the fly_. Note that this is not something that is supported by specific hardware, but instead is something that the operating system does : http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2010/04/inside-apples-automatic-gpu- switching.ars Such a feature allows for significantly increased battery time and since is done totally in software, would be a great addition to Linux. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Enable automatic graphics switching (between integrated and discrete graphics) similar to OSX https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/562773 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
