I installed all available updates yesterday on a Dell C400 and the initial bug is solved. I don't say that it looks pretty booting (way too little colours) and that it is like it should be (dithering problem) also the console flickers and UNR doesn't work ... but the machine doesn't hang with a blank screen anymore (but is still unusable though).
